Solid surface collection guarantees 'one of a kind' interior concepts

The independent electrical shop run by Desiré Engels and his wife forms the basis of Engels Group, which today consists of three divisions: Purchasing Organisation and Electrical Wholesaler D. Engels, Thermo Comfort (HVAC market) and Engels Surfaces. The latter division is importer and distributor for Belgium and Luxembourg of solid surface of various brands. With the Durasein® solid surface collection, they offer architects, processors and builders an additional solution for creating 'one of a kind' interior concepts, also for hotels, restaurants and other catering applications.

Quality A-brand products, a well-organised showroom, meticulous project follow-up, unprecedented service and (free) customer training, ... These are all cornerstones of Engels Group's success. This family-run SME has some 75 employees spread over three divisions. Electrical wholesaler and purchasing organisation D. Engels supports professional dealers of electrical equipment from purchase to after-sales service, and Thermo Comfort is a specialised importer and distributor of HVAC applications. Engels Surfaces is an importer and distributor for Belgium and Luxembourg of HI-MACS, AVONITE, GETACORE, VARICOR and ENGELS SOLIDS solid surface products.

The marble, terrazzo and wood imitations within the Durasein® collection are unprecedented and offer a huge range of creative possibilities.

Solid surface

"To serve customers even better, we are expanding our solid surface range with the Durasein® collection. After all, we always strive for sustainable commitments and never go with the first best brand. There must be real added value and this is certainly the case with top brand Durasein®. They respond flexibly to trends with exclusive patterns and colours. The marble, terrazzo or wood imitations are unseen and offer a huge range of creative possibilities," says Daniel Floren, sales and technical manager of Engels Surfaces. "This collection includes a number of enchanting and high-profile designs: from exuberant veining to a light sparkle, but timeless and contemporary uni colours are also part of the offer. We made a selection of beautiful wood designs and nine solid colours that are in stock as standard. Of course, other colours are also available, but the delivery time will be slightly longer."

Unique versatility

With solid surface, you can give any project a unique touch. The material, a composition of aluminium trihydrate, high-quality acrylic, pigments and binder, is seamlessly bondable and the only product on the market that can be invisibly repaired. Its low-maintenance, anti-bacterial properties and excellent wear resistance make it ideal for healthcare facilities, among others, but certainly also in hotels, restaurants, bars and even private homes. Daniel: "Solid surface is extremely versatile, easy to work with and also thermoformable. This results in unique customised designs every time. Although processing and installation do require the necessary craftsmanship."

Solid Surface is easily machined and thermoformable, although its processing requires skill.

Educating customers

To support the craftsman in realisations in solid surface, Engels Group organises training courses on how to work correctly with the material. "We reach a very diverse audience, from joiners and architects to schools. Whether you are a starter or have been active for several years, everyone can get started. Training usually takes place in our own English Academy. If necessary, we can also go on site at the customer's premises," Daniel continues. "There is a lot of manual labour involved in processing solid surface, with a step-by-step plan to achieve it correctly, safely and sustainably. Each time we prove what you can do with it. The solid surface courses are a real ode to the product. Time and again, up to 95 per cent of the participants report having gained new insights and techniques, even those who have mastered the tricks of the trade for years. It's great recognition."

Looking to the future

The market is evolving rapidly, making it important for customers to stay up-to-date around the latest products and technologies. They can visit Engels Group's showroom at the new Malle site by appointment, where solid surface products also feature prominently with an eye on sustainability and circularity. "These two themes are crucial within all Engels Group activities," concludes Daniël. "We do cross-pollination across all divisions. We learn from each other and strengthen each other. Together, we strive for the best in terms of product and service every day."
