More and more hotels are making the switch to electronic access control. How do you choose the access solution that meets your needs? Quentin Blondé of BG Sleutel, specialising in electronic access control for hotels, lists the possibilities and advantages.

RFID key card

Most hotels use key cards. "An RFID card, based on the data-on-card principle, allows hotel guests to open wireless door locks during their stay," says Quentin Blondé. "After the stay, the card expires automatically, so any loss of it does not burden the hotelier with high costs or a security risk. An additional advantage of such a card is that it can be personalised with the logo or a design. With a significant impact on the hotel experience. Smartphone as key

The latest generation of hotel locks features BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy) as standard. Guests receive their mobile key on their smartphone. Using an app, they open the room door by holding their phone in front of the reader. In some hotels, the reception is not manned in the evening, while others no longer have a reception desk. Then online controlled access control is interesting.

More privacy and comfort

Electronic access control gives guests easy access to their rooms. It also offers advantages for managers. "They check who opened which door when, which increases the sense of security in the hotel," Quentin explains. "Moreover, the system detects when someone is in the room. For example, the cleaning service knows that the room is occupied and guests do not get 'unwanted' visitors. This leads to more privacy and comfort."
