Scent marketing in hotels: the power of scents
It has long been known that scent can have a major impact on our well-being and behaviour. But did you know that scent also plays an important role in the hospitality industry? More and more restaurants, bars and hotels are using scent marketing to entice their customers and enhance the experience. So how and why is it best to use scent marketing when using it in the hospitality industry?
Scent marketing is a form of marketing in which scents are used to evoke a certain atmosphere or emotion. In the hospitality industry, for example, this can be used to whet the appetite, relax guests or, conversely, activate them. The right scent can even lead to increased sales, as customers stay longer and spend more.
Fragrances can also play an important role in the bar. For instance, the smell of freshly ground coffee can make customers feel at ease and stay longer. In addition, the smell of certain drinks, such as whiskey or rum, can contribute to the bar's atmosphere and customer experience.
But not only the scents are important, also the way they are distributed. Thus, scent marketing can be used through scent appliances, diffusers or scent sprays. By spreading the fragrance in the right way, the desired atmosphere can be created.
The use of scent marketing in the hospitality industry is a growing trend. More and more catering establishments are discovering the power of scents and are successfully using them to entice their customers and make their stay more enjoyable. By creating the right atmosphere and emotions, they can not only generate more sales but also ensure an unforgettable experience for their customers.
The hospitality industry is all about experience and hospitality. Scent marketing can play an important role in this. By cleverly using scents, hospitality businesses offer their customers an unforgettable experience and at the same time increase their turnover. It is therefore not surprising that more and more restaurants, bars and cafés are using scent marketing as part of their marketing strategy.
Scents as market leader:
It all started in 2007, when business manager Patrick noticed while travelling in Thailand that the shops there were primarily concerned with spreading a pleasant experience smell. This appeared to be more important than good lighting, right music or beautiful interiors. A few months later, in Miami, he was confronted with a shop that really stimulated ALL the senses to the fullest. He was pulled into this shop, so to speak, and especially by a very pleasant smell that met him on the footpath. Then he realised that this did not yet exist in Belgium.
Belgian entrepreneurs are cautious, so it took some doing to find the right decision-makers. They were usually only persuasive after presenting evidence that scent perception effectively affects sales.
But after five years of persistence, Scents' success began to grow. Meanwhile, some international customers have also found their way to Scents.
Meanwhile, the company has a sales, administrative, marketing and technical department. Altogether, we are 11 employees who ensure that we provide as many entrepreneurs as possible with a pleasant fragrance, ensuring a nice feeling and more turnover. We have clear business processes and strongly monitor their implementation. Everyone is involved in every change or decision.
The range of Scents has also grown. Companies can also resell their own scents as home sprays, scented candles or incorporated into scented sticks. Thus, scent marketing is also extended to the private customer's living rooms.
Scents wants to continue to grow and innovate in the field of scent marketing. We hope our diffusers will find their way into all sectors and can continue to contribute to the customer experience.
