For over thirteen years, DEWECO has been offering high-quality and durable craftsmanship in industrial and design plastic flooring. The Kontich-based family business - run by second-generation business owners Joris and Wouter De Weerdt - proves that functionality and aesthetics can go hand in hand in synthetic floors. This mix really appeals to professionals in the hospitality sector. At the VixX Hotel Mechelen, you will discover what craftsmanship in floors looks like.
"In the spring of 2020, our team was commissioned to install a sleek, modern and low-maintenance PU cast floor in the VixX Hotel, located in the centre of the City of Maneblussers," DEWECO managing director Joris De Weerdt looks back. "At the same time, the hotel manager asked us to provide a designer and timeless white wall coating in RAL 9016 in several hotel rooms, including bathrooms and showers."
For this project, the DEWECO team went to work for a total area of 200 square metres of cast floor and 164 square metres of wall coating. In the showers, around 30 square metres were involved. "Upon completion of the works, the client was very satisfied with the final result. The impressive makeover of the hotel interior is characterised by a minimalist, clean look in timeless white. Hotel guests find themselves in a hotel setting that exudes class, taking the customer experience up a level. And for the hotel staff, the PU cast floor and wall coating are very easy to maintain."
This particular project is just one of many examples of how a version in polyurethane combines durability, style and ease of maintenance. "That combination convinces many professionals working in the hospitality sector," says Joris. "A PU cast floor is the most elastic cast floor in our range, with also a UV-resistant top layer and combinable with underfloor heating. Its anti-allergic properties and wide colour range are also important assets."
Especially in a hotel environment, these properties are more than welcome. After all, floors and walls often have to endure a lot here. "In this sector, where floors are constantly exposed to intense foot traffic, spills and other loads, it is essential to have a floor that can withstand wear and tear and is easy to maintain. Cast floors are particularly strong and can withstand intensive use for a long time, making them a cost-effective long-term investment."
As the practical case of the VixX Hotel shows, DEWECO's VCA-certified professional team does much more than just pour floors. "We also clad walls, stairs and even furniture, such as sinks and sinks," Joris points out. "So the term 'floor and wall covering' better describes our activity. This enables us to provide sustainable, low-maintenance and sleek-looking work and customer spaces for our customers - from bakers and butchers to retailers to hotel operators."
When preparing and installing cast floors and walls, the DEWECO team leaves nothing to chance. "Accurate preparation, always in consultation with the client, is essential for a professional end result," says Joris. "Because our floor covering is only a few millimetres thick, the substrate has to be moisture-free, clean and extremely stable. Our project managers do the necessary moisture measurements and stability analyses in advance to map this out properly. One of our great strengths is that we offer a diversified range and always think along with the customer. Depending on the room and what it will be used for, we can offer a suitable floor system. And even within a given floor type, there are several options. With acrylic cast floors, for example, we strive for the right balance between the desired non-slip content and ease of maintenance. A rougher floor - which therefore has a higher anti-slip content - is more difficult to clean. Together with our customers, we always find the best solution."■
