Since 1997, Brustor has been pioneering in sun protection and outdoor living with an innovative range of articulated screens, veranda blinds, screens and terrace coverings. The West Flanders family business, which manages the entire production process itself, is a trusted partner of many hospitality entrepreneurs who want to transform their outdoor terrace into a wonderful place for customers and visitors. Sales manager Maxim Devos likes to put the Ghent restaurant Barque à Jack in the spotlight, where the Brustor B128XL terrace covering with retractable fabric roof was recently installed.
Brustor is a leading market player in outdoor living solutions. The roots of this family business are in Gullegem, where Louis Brutsaert started his own company in tarpaulins and home awnings in 1965. With all the knowledge and experience in house, the Brustor brand was launched in 1997. Today, the company has its own powder coating plant, sawmill, production, assembly and inspection department for the design and production of high-quality and trendy awnings, veranda blinds, screens and terrace coverings.
With its customised patio awnings, Brustor offers customers and visitors the chance to enjoy the outdoors all year round, four seasons long, on a hotel, restaurant or café terrace. "In our company, a team of about 15 engineers is constantly working to improve existing solutions and develop new applications," Maxim confirms. "We offer different types of outdoor living patio covers, each with their own advantages. With slatted canopies, you can dose the sunlight perfectly by tilting or sliding the slats open. With a glass roofing system, you enjoy maximum light. And with our cloth patio covers, you choose between sun or shade at the touch of a button."
In 2018, the family-run company launched the Brustor B128 Pergola with fabric, a versatile awning with a minimalist design and numerous personalisation options. "From its launch, this patio cover was a hit with our customers," says Maxim. "The combination of awning and patio cover, together with smooth rainwater drainage via slim poles, certainly contributed to this success. The wide fabric choice and RAL colours for the structure are also still important commercial strengths."
Last year - in 2023 - the Brustor team shifted up a gear with the launch of the Brustor B128XL. Maxim: "As the name suggests, this is the big sister of the B128. We developed this patio awning specifically for large patio sizes in hospitality businesses. The B128XL combines the best of both worlds, namely a pergola with built-in screens that disappear completely into the aluminium structure. The heavier poles allow a hospitality operator to cover larger areas with a sleek fabric roof. That light yet robust fabric - made of acrylic - is rollable and zipped, guaranteeing perfect waterproofing. We offer this colourfast canvas roof in some 25 colour variants, allowing you to tailor a catering terrace to your personal taste."
The maximum area of this patio canopy is 30 square metres (6 metres wide x 5 metres projection or 5 metres wide x 6 metres projection) per module, but can be linked in width without limit. The use of this modular system makes it perfectly possible to cover large terrace areas. You can discover what this looks like in practice at the Ghent restaurant Barque à Jack. "The manager of this catering establishment wanted to cover his 15-metre-wide terrace in a high-quality and trendy way," Maxim explains. "Via the installation of four B128XL modules - which seamlessly fit together - we managed to achieve this objective. The end result looks very nice, with the terrace perfectly enclosed on all sides by integrated screens. Today, customers of the restaurant can enjoy a snack and a drink on the outdoor terrace during any season, excellently sheltered from the weather elements."
