The family business DEWECO was founded in 2010 by Frank De Weerdt, a craftsman with more than 20 years of experience in the supply and installation of industrial and designer plastic flooring based on acrylic (PMMA), epoxy and polyurethane. Today, his sons Joris and Wouter are at the helm of this Kontich-based company.
"With our compact team of five office staff and six in-house installers, we offer every customer a personal approach, a customised floor solution and a customer-friendly follow-up," Joris Deweerdt of DEWECO adds. "Our installers are VCA-certified and have a lot of practical experience. Not only in casting floors, but also for covering walls, stairs and even furniture such as sinks and wash basins."
DEWECO's professional team regularly hits the road to install top-quality industrial cast floors at professional customers - from hotels to hospitals. "Thanks to our many years of experience, we know the practical challenges of each industry and we have also already realised floors for almost every sector," confirms Joris. "Our acrylic cast floors score high in terms of customer satisfaction because we can install such floors in as little as one day, after which they can be loaded after only two hours. In a busy hotel environment, where there is a constant coming and going of customers, visitors and staff, this guarantees minimal disruption to daily operations."
What exactly is an acrylic floor and what are its major advantages? Joris explains: "An acrylic floor - also known as non-slip cast floor or PMMA floor - is a synthetic resin floor based on PMMA resins, sprinkled with coloured quartz sand or coloured flakes. PMMA stands for polymethyl methacrylate, a type of plastic. Acrylic floors are available in a wide range of colours and heat-resistant designs. One of the great advantages of acrylate floors is that they dry very quickly and can therefore be loaded almost immediately. With these flooring solutions, we offer our customers a seamless, low-maintenance and durable floor that meets the strictest hygiene and safety requirements, such as HACCP, NVWA and Occupational Health and Safety. The floors have excellent resistance to stains and accumulation of dirt, dust and bacteria."
Mainly because of the latter property, acrylic cast floors are often used in the food sector, industrial kitchens, bakeries and in the hospitality industry. "Floors in hotels or other catering establishments get a hard time," says Joris. "Floors there are constantly exposed to intense foot traffic, spilled liquids and other loads. Then it is essential to have a floor that is resistant to wear and tear and easy to maintain. Acrylic screeds are particularly strong and can withstand long-term intensive use, making them a cost-effective long-term investment. In hotel kitchens, our professional team often installs a waterproof tub of floor and skirting. This system is much better than tiles where dirt can creep between the joints."
When preparing and installing cast floors, the DEWECO team leaves nothing to chance. "Accurate preparation - always in consultation with the customer - is essential for a professional end result," Joris points out. "Because our floor covering is only a few millimetres thick, the substrate must be moisture-free, clean and extremely stable. Our project managers do the necessary moisture measurements and stability analyses beforehand to map this out properly. With acrylic cast floors, we always strive for the right balance between the desired non-slip content and ease of maintenance. A rougher floor - which therefore has a higher anti-slip content - is more difficult to clean. Together with our customers, we always find the best solution."
