Mitsubishi Electric supports hotel renovation with subtle design devices

Mitsubishi Electric is an established name in ventilation, heating, cooling and air purification equipment. Their HVAC systems can be found in homes, office buildings, but also in hotels and restaurants. For example, the Japanese manufacturer supplied the units for the renovated rooms in the attractive Hotel Stiemerheide in Genk.

The six outdoor units are concealed from view.

Hotel Stiemerheide is located near the Hoge Kempen National Park and the Spiegelven golf course. The green and peaceful surroundings make it a place where it is great to stay. The hotel opened its doors in the late 1980s and in recent years chose to thoroughly renovate its 70-plus guest rooms. From the materials and furniture to the techniques: contemporary comfort and quality are key. "During this renovation, attention was paid to sustainable techniques, including 73 climate units for the corridors and hotel rooms," says Vital Gerets, account manager at Mitsubishi Electric. "It is an ecological and economical way of heating and cooling. In addition, these rooms are supplied with fresh air by a D+ ventilation system with energy recovery."

For hotels, Mitsubishi Electric has specially designed indoor units PEFY-P20VMS-E in its range. These are very thin with an installation height of just 20 centimetres, allowing them to be easily recessed into false ceilings. "Moreover, they operate extremely quietly, at only 22 decibels. This whisper-quiet noise level combined with the subtle incorporation into the interior guarantees the comfort of Stiemerheide's guests," says Vital. "In fact, many guests leave the air conditioning on at night to sleep at a comfortable temperature. These units then cause no noise pollution. In addition, we supplied a specially developed black designer thermostat for hotels, which fits into sleek interiors and is very easy to operate."

Strong return

Airtech from Dilsen-Stokkem installed the appliances and was also responsible for the total package of HVAC technology, the cabinets, ceilings and interior joinery. "As a Mitsubishi Electric Diamond Partner, Airtech knows our products like no other. Moreover, because they own HVAC and the interior, there are no conflicts with planning, piping or cables." Also in the snooker room, Airtech installed a visible black wall unit from Mitsubishi Electric: the MSZ-LN50VG2B from the Diamond range, an eye-catcher that fits right into the look and feel of the room.

The 73 indoor units are connected to six Mistubishi Electric VRF outdoor units type PUHY-P350YNW-E. Up to a hundred units can be connected to these, with no restriction on pipe spacing. As these outdoor units did not fit on the roof and should not interfere with the surrounding landscape, they are set up very discreetly. Additional planting also means they are not visible to guests. "Many improvements have been made to these outdoor units by Mitsubishi Electric in recent years, such as even suction along four sides. This causes less noise and fewer thaw cycles when heating. Moreover, this improves efficiency. All outdoor units together account for a total cooling capacity of 227 kW and 255 kW heating capacity."

The air group is perfectly and subtly integrated into the building.

Service and support

The entire heating and cooling system is monitored at reception via Mistubishi Electric's management software. "This way, you always welcome guests to the rooms with a pleasant temperature. This adds to the experience. Moreover, don't underestimate the importance of healthy, clean air in guests' comfort. We achieve that here with our WZ-E 920 CA air group. It has an air balance of 4,500 m³/h, is very quiet and equipped with EC fans, high filtration, heat recovery via an enthalpy exchanger and free cooling in the off-season. The air group is concealed in a technical room under the roof and through two custom-made roof passages that match the building."

The corridors are also air-conditioned with appliances from Mitsubishi Electric.

With two branches in Belgium, Mitsubishi Electric is strongly committed to sustainability, quality and service. The presence of 20 or so in-house technicians and technical support in the design and development of projects is an important asset in this respect. "This is also how we reinforce our reputation for quiet, reliable appliances. Moreover, we are always available to installers, including through numerous in-house training courses. That is our way of ensuring quality," Vital adds. "Our focus is customer satisfaction. We co-design projects and thus proactively spot challenges at the design table. For hotels, units need to be compact, quiet and high-performance. The aesthetic aspect of both the unit and its operation certainly plays a role here. We certainly meet that with our expertise and offerings."
