Quality and durable craftsmanship in industrial and designer plastic flooring. That is what DEWECO stands for. With over 350 projects a year and activities in four countries, the family business is a trendsetter in its sector. Together with their professional team, second-generation business managers Joris and Wouter De Weerdt prove that functionality and aesthetics can go hand in hand in synthetic flooring. This mix really appeals to hospitality professionals, because floors in a restaurant or hotel, for example, take a lot of beating.

The Kontich-based family business DEWECO was founded in 2010 by Frank De Weerdt, a craftsman with more than 20 years of experience in the supply and installation of industrial and designer plastic flooring based on acrylic (PMMA), epoxy and polyurethane. In recent years, the offer in designer floors has been greatly extended to 'smearing techniques', such as stone and marble carpets, trowel floors, cemline, microtopping and mortex. Today, his sons Joris and Wouter are at the helm. "With our compact team of five office staff and six in-house installers, we offer each customer a personal approach, a tailor-made flooring solution and a customer-friendly follow-up," says Joris. "Our installers are VCA-certified and have a lot of practical experience. With great attention to detail, they guarantee an excellently installed and high-quality industrial design floor."

The DEWECO craft team does more than just pour floors. "Besides this speciality, we also cover walls, stairs and even furniture, such as sinks and sinks," Joris points out. "So the term floor and wall covering better describes our activity. This enables us to provide our customers - from bakers and butchers to retailers to hotel operators - with durable, low-maintenance and sleek-looking work and customer spaces. With DEWECO, we offer an acrylic cast floor for the kitchen environment of a hotel and a certain type of design floor as a basis for a tasteful interior. In short, a customised floor and wall covering solution is the basis of a successful business."

Floors in hotels or other catering establishments get a hard time. "In this sector, where floors are constantly exposed to intense foot traffic, spills and other stresses, it is essential to have a floor that can withstand wear and tear and is easy to maintain," Joris explains. "Cast floors are particularly strong and can withstand intensive use for a long time, making them a cost-effective long-term investment. 

DEWECO's acrylic screeds excel in several areas. Joris: "These catering floors are seamless, maintenance-friendly, durable and meet the strictest hygiene and safety requirements (HACCP, NVWA and Arbo). This makes them resistant to stains and accumulation of dirt, dust and bacteria. This is crucial in food preparation and food consumption environments. By the way, did you know that our craftsmen can install such a floor in one day, and they are loadable after just two hours?" 

In turn, designer floors combine a tasteful look with ease of maintenance. They look sleek, offer maximum walking comfort and are perfectly compatible with underfloor heating. Good to know is also that these floors are available in all possible RAL and NCS colours, with a matt or high-gloss finish. In short: whether it is a chic restaurant with a sleek and modern look, a cosy coffee bar with a rustic atmosphere or a trendy cocktail bar with an industrial look: there is always a cast floor that meets the customer's aesthetic requirements.

When preparing and installing cast floors, the DEWECO team leaves nothing to chance. "Accurate preparation - always in consultation with the customer - is essential for a professional end result," Joris points out. "Because our flooring is only a few millimetres thick, the substrate must be moisture-free, clean and extremely stable. Our project managers do the necessary moisture measurements and stability analyses in advance to map this out properly." 

"One of our great strengths is that we do not offer one-size-fits-all, but always think along with the customer. Depending on the space and what it will be used for, we can offer a suitable flooring system. And even within a given floor type, there are several possibilities. With acrylic cast floors, for instance, we strive for the right balance between the desired non-slip content and ease of maintenance. A rougher floor - which therefore has a higher anti-slip content - is more difficult to clean. Together with our customers, we always find the best solution."■
