Brussels has added a new culinary hotspot. era Restaurant has officially opened its doors, offering a unique dining experience where tradition and innovation come together seamlessly. era embodies a harmonious fusion of an impressive, historic location, deliciously surprising dishes and a unique atmosphere where you can enjoy both a cosy breakfast and long dinners.
Walking into the imposing building in the heart of Brussels, you will undoubtedly be short of eyes. The history of the former bank building lives on in the impressive high ceilings, the royal staircase, the gigantic windows overlooking the Grand Place and the extraordinary interior. Those with an eye for detail will still find references to the former bank directors in the restaurant hall. These elements make era a unique piece of architecture. Located in the new Hotel Fleur De Ville, dining in the setting of era alone is an experience to remember. And then you haven't yet tasted the chef's creations.
The building housing era and Hotel Fleur de Ville was once a busy bank branch in the 19th century and still exudes the energy of the past. It housed the Caisse Générale d'Epargne et de Retraite, a national savings bank from the 1850s. Construction was led by architect Henri Beyaert with help from Paul Hankart between 1889 and 1893. Between 1910 and 1918, French architect Alban Chambon added an impressive entrance and corner turret. After a restoration in 1990, this iconic building remains a tribute to the vision and skill of its designers.
At era, you can have both breakfast and dinner. The menu is inspired by classic French and European cuisine, enriched with modern influences. Chef Yonatan Cohen works closely with high-quality local suppliers and uses his own stock of home-made ingredients. Together with Cohen's international experience, this combination results in a menu that is both traditional and innovative. Think of dishes like the signature steak tartare with cheese garum, fermented chilli, finished with bone marrow hollandaise and caviar.
Even beyond the menu, era embodies a vision in which the ancient world and the modern come together in every detail of the restaurant. From the clothing of the staff to the music, a mix of classical orchestral music with electronic twists, the interior and the dishes - everything contributes to an atmosphere that is both familiar and surprising.
Cohen is determined to make every meal an unforgettable experience. His mission is simple: surprise and amaze guests with every dish and, with a pinch of perfectionism, encourage a constant evolution of his culinary works of art. At Chef Cohen, you won't be served the same dish twice. 'My goal for era is that when a guest leaves, they immediately think of their next visit. By changing the menu regularly, we arouse curiosity and ensure that guests are presented with an entirely new culinary experience. Thanks to era's consistent service, atmosphere and dishes, we aim to gain the trust of our clientele and thus build a loyal community.'
